BGAN Streaming Services

BGAN For High-speed Satellite Video Streaming

When you need reliable video streaming, choose BGAN Streaming Services. This satellite data streaming service from Inmarsat uses unshared channels over the BGAN satellite link to create a dedicated, high-speed path to the Internet.

Popular with live-event broadcasters who don’t want audio or video dropouts during a video feed, BGAN Streaming Services have even been used to stream a live video from the top of Mount Everest using a smartphone. And CNN has used BGAN Streaming Services to stream live video from combat zones all over the world.

BGAN Streaming Services—Billed By The Minute

While BGAN standard services and streaming services both connect to the Internet, streaming services are billed to end-users on a per-minute basis. Standard BGAN services are billed by the amount of megabytes transferred.

By default, we disable all BGAN streaming services to prevent customers from inadvertently selecting a streaming option when using their BGAN terminal and racking up expensive airtime costs. However, we can activate streaming services for you at any time.

BGAN HDR Revolutionizes live video streaming

BGAN streaming services, offered over the Inmarsat-4 network, now also include BGAN HDR (High data Rate) Service, currently the fastest available streaming rate for any portable satellite terminal.

BGAN HDR supports four channel streaming rates that average 650 Kbps, with a minimum of 580 Kpbs and a maximum of 800 Kpbs. These rates are setting a new standard in live TV broadcasting.

Plus, it’s possible to double these streaming speeds by bonding two terminals together to achieve connection speeds over 1 Mbps, a feat previously possible only over a VSAT uplink.

BGAN HDR streaming services can be accessed via the Explorer 710 and Hughes 9211 BGAN terminals, which feature much faster streaming speeds than other BGAN terminals, such as the Class 2 Hughes 9202 or Explorer 510. This faster service increases the fidelity of live video broadcasting.

As well, BGAN HDR’s four channel streaming rates include both symmetric and asymmetric options, permitting you to pay only for the data you require. This is helpful when you require a faster upload speed and a slower download speed, or vice versa.

All BGAN streaming services are available around the globe, with the exception of the extreme Polar regions.
